Ed left us Sunday, September 15, 2024 to ride Harleys in Heaven while in the excellent care of the staff at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Born November 10, 1944, he was a son of the late Donald M. "Jim" and Ruth L. (Zimmerman) Renninger.
Also preceding him in death was a son, Edward J. "Eddie" Renninger; an infant brother, Robert D. Renninger; and brother James D. "Jimmy" Renninger.
Surviving is his daughter, Teresa Watts (Joe) of Williamsport. Also surviving are grandchildren Tristan Yeater of Lewistown and Matthew Chappell (Alexis) of Huntingdon; and four great grandchildren: Madilyn, Parker, Connor, and Malaki.
He was a lifelong member of the community of Pine Glen near McVeytown and a 1962 graduate of Rothrock High School. Following high school he served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965, spending time overseas in Germany. Once home, he was employed at Frieden, Inc. in Lewistown and then Noerr Trucking briefly before marrying Mona (Thompson) Renninger on March 24, 1967. He finally retired after over 50 years at Overhead Door Corp. in their Rolling Steel division with the maintenance department.
Known to friends and family as "Fast Eddie" or "Groundhog", he was the neighborhood "fix-it" guy and could often be found in or around his garage working on mowers, rototillers and assorted small engines. Most of all, Ed could be found working on and riding his 1953 Harley Davidson motorcycle. The ratio of working on it and riding it was often a subject bantered about with his colleagues. He had a deep love of riding and the activities associated with bikers and like minded folk.
He was a lifetime member of A.B.A.T.E. of PA, a motorcycle rights organization, with membership in Centre Line Riders Chapter 18, and Patriot Riders, Chapter 53. He was previously also a member of Touring Friends Motorcycle Club, but could be found anywhere bikers gathered. He at various times had memberships with and frequented the Owl's Nest in Lewistown, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Burnham, the Milesburg American Legion, City Hook & Ladder No. 14, the Brooklyn Hose Company No. 3, and the Mount Union V.F.W.
In addition to motorcycles, he enjoyed hunting deer and small game, putting his marksman status from the army to good use.
His grandchildren and great grandchildren brought out a side of him that was a joy to see and he loved them openly - almost as much as his motorcycle.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Darvin Donahey officiating. Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to A.B.A.T.E of Pennsylvania, P.O. Box 619, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
