Marlin Harshbarger Obituary

  Marlin Darrel “Pee Wee” Harshbarger, 89, formerly of McVeytown, went to be with the Lord at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 26, 2020 in Chambersburg at his home.

    Born July 24, 1931 in Bratton Twp., he was a son of the late John I. and Helen (Settle) Harshbarger.  His wife, Donest “Joan” (Kepner) Harshbarger, whom he married April 16, 1955, survives.

   Also surviving are:  two sons, Darrel L. Harshbarger and wife Jan of McVeytown, Randy J. Harshbarger and wife Dixie of Chambersburg; ten siblings, Audrey Stinnett of Stuart’s Draft, VA, Nancy Yoder of McVeytown, Delmer Harshbarger and wife Bonnie of McVeytown, Deborah Dickson and husband Robert of Florida, Larry Harshbarger and wife Susan of Lewistown, Linda Bailey and husband Kenneth of Mattawana, Carol Sunderland of Ocala, FL, Dennis Harshbarger and wife Wanda of Lewistown, Rosalie Freed and husband Richard of McVeytown, Thomas Harshbarger and wife Paula of Mattawana; three grandchildren, Brandy Ritchey, Christina Harshbarger, Bradley Slemons and partner Emily Huffnagle; three great grandchildren, Emma Ritchey, Colin Fisher, Braden Slemons.

   Preceding him in death were three brothers, Russell, Glen, and John.

   He was a U.S. Army veteran (Sergeant First Class) of the Korean War from 1952 to 1954, receiving the Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service    Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.  Following his discharge from active duty he enlisted in the Army Reserves, serving into the 1970s.

   Employed as a block operator with Conrail for 30 years, he also served as Bratton Twp. Supervisor from 1967 to 2001, and was a former member of the Mifflin County Solid Waste Authority.

   Marlin was a member of the Mattawana Mennonite Church, and a founding member of Camp Carlisle.

   His family was the most important thing to him, and he treasured the time he spent with his loving wife of 65 years, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; as well as his many friends.  In his earlier days he enjoyed hunting, and was also an avid golfer.

   A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 at Juniata Memorial Park with Pastor Debby Renninger officiating.

   The family requests that those attending adhere to CDC guidelines by wearing a mask and practicing social distance.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spirit Trust Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Dr., Chambersburg, PA  17202.
