Lee Daniel Yoder, 64, of Lewistown, entered into the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 due to complications from Covid-19, taking with him a piece of the hearts of everyone that knew him and loved him.
Lee was born May 26th, 1956 to Daniel and Alice Yoder, who survive. His wife, and love of his life, Joanne (Groff) Yoder survives. He is also survived by his brother, Harold (Melody) Yoder. Lee is survived by 11 children; Brian Yoder, Cynthia (Joshua) Rhodes, Bradley (Sara) Yoder, Nathan (Michelle) Yoder, Joseph (Angela) Yoder, Matthew (Kara) Yoder, Luke (Joyce) Yoder, Crystal (Matthew) Swarey, Cathy Yoder, Timothy (Sheila) Yoder, Michael (Michaela) Yoder, and 22 grandchildren.
Lee was a hard working provider for his family. He and Joanne raised their children on the family dairy farm, Ridge Point Farm. Lee worked tirelessly on the farm and in side endeavors away from the farm to provide for his family, including most recently as a milk truck driver for TC Daubert.
Lee was a 1974 graduate of Rothrock High School where he won a golden hammer for his skills at carpentry. Lee could build anything, including building his own house, and he loved helping his children with building projects on their own homes and passing his knowledge onto them.
Lee was a member of Mattawana Mennonite Church where he served a variety of roles. He was involved in the Mifflin County and Pennsylvania Holstein association. He enjoyed taking cows to dairy shows at Mifflin and Huntingdon County Fairs and the Pennsylvania Farm Show.
Lee was a gentle giant whose laughter could fill a room. He loved the outdoors. He loved to take his children and grandchildren hunting and fishing. One rarely witnessed a more excited person than when Lee got a fish on the line while fishing with his grandchildren. He was an especially adept bear hunter, earning him the nickname “Bear Lee”. He loved taking drives or walks in nature, watching sports, listening to music, especially bluegrass and gospel, lavishing his wife with thoughtful gifts, and he especially enjoyed Christmastime with his large family. He enjoyed playing games and teaching his kids sports and could hit a baseball a country mile due to his prodigious strength from years of carrying milk pails and working on the farm.
Lee leaves behind a legacy of hard work and adventure. He taught his children that if you’re going to do something, do it right, give it your all, and don’t take shortcuts. He loved traveling and dreamed of retiring and taking his wife on road trips across the country.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 28, 2020 at Living Springs Mennonite Church, 565 Ridge Rd., McVeytown. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana.
A viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020 at Living Springs Mennonite Church.
