John F. Freed Jr.

   John F. Freed Jr., 79, of McVeytown, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

   Born January 1, 1947, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late John F. and Janet (Lenhart) Freed Sr.  His wife, Patricia E. (Stringer) Freed, preceded him in death on April 19, 2025.

   Also preceding him in death was a son, Roy R. Freed; a granddaughter, Amber Freed and a brother, Charles Freed.

   Surviving are:  six children, Dawn Michael of Burnham, Denise Freed (Danny Groce) of Honey Grove, James Freed (Denise) of Lewistown, John Freed III (Jen) of South Carolina, Shawn Freed (Julie Stydinger) of Belleville, Jonathan Freed (Amanda Berrier) of McVeytown; two stepsons, Scott Stringer (Susan) of McVeytown, Stacey Williams of Lewistown; five siblings, Millard "Fred" Freed of Mifflintown, Gary Freed of McClure, Leonard Freed of Lewistown, Robert Freed of Huntingdon, Cheryl "Missy" Tome of York; 26 grandchildren and their families.

   He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1966  to 1968.

   John was a mechanic and carpenter, having worked at Junction Auto Wreckers and Marlette Homes before retirement.

   He attended Pine Glen Alliance Church.

   A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m.on.Friday, June 26, 2026 at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Kurtis Swisher officiating.
