Jo Ann Kelly Rhodes

          Jo Ann Kelly Rhodes, age 89, formerly of McVeytown, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 27, 2023, at her home in Lewistown.  She was born May 21, 1933, to the late Deuane S. and Susan R. Kelly in West Milton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Rhodes, whom she married November 17, 1951, in West Milton; four brothers—Jack Kelly, James Kelly, Jerry Lee Kelly, and J.D. Kelly; and her sister, Jean Truitt.

          She will be missed by her son, Duane A. Rhodes, and his wife, Marie, of Lewistown; her daughter, Julia S. Nease, and her husband, Jarrod, of Fletcher, NC; one very special grandson, Eric Rhodes, his wife, Jeanne, and two great-grandchildren, Dayton and Irelyn, of Frederick, MD.

          Jo Ann was a graduate of Milton-Union High School.  She was a secretary at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, moved to Mifflin County, and retired as a secretary for the Mifflin County School District.  She was a member of the Troy, Ohio Order of Eastern Stars and a supporter of St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

          Jo Ann was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren for many years.  She served on several church commissions and was recently recognized with the title of Deacon Emeritus.  She was a faithful Penn State sports fan and an avid reader.  She was well-known for sending greeting cards, and her talent and enjoyment for decorating for every holiday were very evident in her home.

          The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:00 am, at Spring Run Church on Ferguson Valley Road; the memorial service beginning at 11:00 am, with Pastors Craig and Kate Gandy officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Spring Run Church of the Brethren, PO Box 333, McVeytown, PA 17051.
