James E. Miller, 90, of Loop Road, McVeytown, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021 at his home.
Born April 30, 1931 in Newton Hamilton, he was a son of the late Clyde E. and Bertha B. (Bratton) Miller. His wife, Ellen F. (Baker) Miller, whom he married Feb. 23, 1952, survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Gary J. Miller and wife Kathi of McVeytown; a daughter, LeAnn E. Koeck and husband Mark of Huntingdon; three siblings, Ronald C. Miller and wife Donna of McVeytown, C. Edward Miller and wife Mary Ann of Newton Hamilton, Opal J. Schlappi and husband Carl of Muncy; a grandson, Richard W. Miller and wife Crista of McVeytown; two great grandchildren, Devin Miller and wife Kayla, Kadence Miller; three great great grandchildren, Abel, Annika, and Seeley.
Preceding him in death was an infant son, Michael Lee Miller; and a sister, Madilda Fields.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from from 1954 to 1956; and later served for 12 years in U.S. Naval Reserve.
After 38 years service as a machinist and foreman, he retired from Harbison-Walker Refractories in Mt. Union.
He was a member of the Atkinson Mills United Methodist Church.
He taught himself to play guitar at nine years old by listening to the Grand Ole Opry. He then taught his siblings to play, and was a member of the Polka Dots, performing at local barn dances, square dances, and fire halls.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, 61 Pine Glen Rd., Lewistown, with Pastor Randy Fiske officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana.
A viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the church.
