Hazel Kauffman Obituary

Hazel Marie (Miller) Kauffman, 94, of Mattawana, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 11:25 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2022.
Hazel was born January 5, 1928, in Bratton Township to the late Wilmer and Helen (Fleck) Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick Glen ‘Bud’ Kauffman, with whom she shared 67 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2016.
She is survived by her son, Fred Jr. and wife, Linda; and daughter, Pam Brumbaugh and husband, Bruce, all of McVeytown. She leaves behind four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Amanda Ashbach and her daughters, Hailey and Hannah; Seth Brumbaugh and wife, Amy, and their children, Derrick, Ryleigh and Noah; Stacie Fleisher and husband, Jason, and their children, Dylan and Cassidy; and Kelly Brumbaugh and fiancé, Jason Peifer and their daughters, Jade and Blair.
She is also survived by her brother, Paul Miller, and three sisters, Gertrude Kenepp, Dorothy Spearing, and Shirley Crosson and husband, Leroy. Two brothers, William and Russell, and a sister, Catherine, preceded her in death.
Hazel worked as a cook for the Mifflin County School District for over 30 years, first at the Mattawana Elementary School and then at the Lewistown High School, retiring in 1993. She was a dedicated gardener, and during the summers she could almost always be found outside mowing the lawn or tending the flower beds. The home she and her husband shared in Mattawana was known as “the Victorian house with all of the flowers.” She loved spending time with her family and friends.
She was one of the oldest members of Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, where she and her husband were former youth leaders. She also held a weekly Bible study in her home for many years.
Services will be conducted by Pastor Randy Fiske at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Pine Glen Church of the Brethren. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Tuesday at the church. A meal will be held in the church after the service.
Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery.
The family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly suggest that contributions in Hazel’s memory be made to Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, 61 Pine Glen Road, Lewistown, PA 17044.
