G. Faye Kauffman, 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior, and her beloved family on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Greenwood Village in Lewistown.
Born Dec. 3, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Emory and Emily (Lloyd) Somers. Her husband, Paul R. Kauffman Sr., whom she married Dec. 16, 1955, preceded her in death on June 14, 2014.
Also preceding her in death was a son, Paul R. Kauffman Jr. on October 30, 2011; a son-in-law, Timothy C. Weston on March 31, 2020; an uncle who was like a Dad to her, Charles "Salty" Somers; and six siblings, Sarah Rupert, Shirley Arnold, Emory "Jack" Somers, Evan Somers, Ronald Summers, and Donald Summers.
Surviving are: a daughter, Brenda S. Weston of Lewistown; a daughter-in-law, Rochelle Kauffman of York; two sisters-in-law, Reinhilde Summers, Saundra Somers, both of New Jersey; three grandchildren, Curtis C. Weston of Lewistown, Jacqueline F. Kauffman of York, Robert P. Kauffman of Lewistown; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special family friend from childhood, Ruth Jones of Lewistown.
After graduating in 1949 from Lewistown High School, she attended Maranatha Bible School (University of Valley Forge). When her Mother passed she left school and returned home to help raise her youngest brothers, twins Ronald and Donald.
Faye retired from Watson's Optical in December of 1993, and also served as a Bratton Twp. election worker.
She was involved with the reading tutoring program at the Mifflin County Library, and volunteered at the Nightingale Gift Shop at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. She was also a regular blood donor and volunteered at the Red Cross for many years.
Faye was a charter member and deaconess of the Pine Glen Alliance Church, where she was very active in teaching Sunday School, Junior Church, and Bible School.
Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. She volunteered in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Band Boosters, and Youth Events. Faye babysat all three of her grandchildren and attended every event that they participated in.
An excellent cook and baker, she also enjoyed reading, singing, flower gardening, puzzles, word finds, walking, and lunches with friends.
Faye and her husband, Paul, enjoyed attending gospel concerts with their lifetime friends, Ed and Etsy Felton.
The family would like to thank the special caregivers, Sandy, Ruth, Dixie, Jackie, and Diane, that enabled Faye to reside with her daughter and son-in-law for 4 and 1/2 years; as well as her caregivers at Greenwood Village.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Pine Glen Alliance Church with her nephew, Rev. Harold Summers, and Rev. Daniel Stegman officiating. Private interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana.
The family will provide all flowers.
