Mr. Edward (Ed) Eugene Yoder, 89, of Valley View Retirement Community, formerly of Bratton Township, Mifflin County, passed unexpectedly from this earth and into the loving arms of Jesus on the morning of his 89th birthday on December 21, 2020.
Ed was born on December 21, 1931 in Bratton Township, to the late, Mr. Theodore G. Yoder and Salina A. (Hertzler) Yoder.
Also referred to as "Sonny" by his parents, neighbors and friends, he was the widower of Myrna D. (Zeigler) Yoder who passed away in 2013. The couple was married on March 22, 1958 and was blessed to spend 55 years of marriage before Myrna’s passing. Ed is survived by a brother, Robert Yoder and wife Patricia of State College, PA. He is also survived by a son, Brian E. and daughter in law, Cindy Yoder of Lewistown, a daughter, Dana L. of Harrisburg and an adopted daughter, Xiomaris Soriano, of New York City, New York. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Shannon Yetter of Lewistown, Caleb Yoder of Bratton Township, and Joshua Yoder of Belleville, two great grandchildren, Kaden Yetter and Harlow Jade Stroup.
Ed was a long-time member of the McVeytown United Methodist Church, serving as treasurer of the on-site nursery school with upwards of 35 years of service. He was fondly known to the children as Mr. Yoder, “the principal.”
Ed graduated from Bratton/McVeytown/Oliver High School in 1950; he entered the U.S. Army serving two years as a military policeman at Camp Rucker, Georgia.
Ed retired from the wheel mill at the Standard Steel with close to 40 years of service. Earlier in life, he delivered blocks of ice to area homes for their ice boxes, and also helped many local farmers on their farms before and after reporting to work.
Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying both activities with his wife and son over the years.
He also enjoyed traveling with his wife. He spent many hours working in his woodshop making homemade crafts with Myrna. More recently, he enjoyed doing word puzzles.
He was fun-loving and could make you laugh easily and had that special grin of his. Ed had a special love of animals, loving and caring for many special pets over the years. He was a kind-hearted soul and a loving friend to many.
Arrangements are entrusted to Harshbarger Funeral Home in McVeytown, PA. There will be a private family viewing beginning at 12 noon on Monday, December 28, 2020 at the funeral home, and a public grave-side service beginning at 1pm at Pleasant View Cemetery in Mattawana, PA. Following COVID precautions and protocol, attendees are required to wear a face mask and practice proper social distancing.
The family would like to thank the staff at Valley View for taking such great care of Ed over the past 5 years.
