Donald R. Shoemaker Sr., 84, of McVeytown, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born March 18, 1940, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late William M. and Dorothy I. (Harshbarger) Shoemaker. His wife, Mary I. (Black) Shoemaker, whom he married Sept. 16, 2000, survives.
Also surviving are: four children, Thomas Shoemaker of Milroy, William Shoemaker and wife Sherry of Lewistown, Joseph Shoemaker of Belleville, Angela Crotsley and husband Charles of Lewistown: a twin brother, Ronald J. Shoemaker of Lewistown; a sister, Bona L. Shirey and husband Harry of Reedsville: 9 grandchildren and their families; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald R. Shoemaker Jr.
Early in life he was employed at the American Viscose Corp. before retiring from Standard Steel in Burnham with over 30 years of service.
Don was a member of the Moose Family Center in Lewistown and an avid Pirates, Steelers, and Penn State fan.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting with his father in his younger years, loved to fish with his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed mowing and maintaining his property.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024 at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with Rev. Stephen D. Sinclair officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
