Delmer L. Harshbarger, 83, of Ridge Road, McVeytown, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his wife and children, on Monday, March 8, 2021 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born Aug. 26, 1937 in Mattawana, he was a son of the late John I. and Helen V. (Settle) Harshbarger. His wife, Bonnie L. (Crosson) Harshbarger, whom he married Aug. 7, 1964, survives.
Also surviving are: four children, Karen S. Laub and husband Michael C. of Belleville, Teresa M. Rowley and husband Steven of Mount Pleasant, SC, Delmer L. Harshbarger Jr. and wife Melanie of McVeytown, John E. Harshbarger and companion Lucinda Barlett of Reedsville; seven siblings, Audrey J. Stinnet of Stuarts Draft, VA, Deborah M. Dickerson and husband Robert of Naples, Fl, Larry E. Harshbarger and wife Susan of Lewistown, Carol L. Sunderland of Palm Bay, FL, Dennis M. Harshbarger and wife Wanda of Lewistown, Rosalie A. Freed and husband Richard of McVeytown, Thomas M. Harshbarger and wife Paula of Mattawana; 11 grandchildren, Amanda, Kyle, Megan, Kristen, Nathan, Bradley, Brooke, Lucas, Olivia, John I., Zeb; nine great-grandchildren, Blain, Sophia, Aleeha, Peyton, Lily, Winston, Jakob, Bryce, and Maverick.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Linda L. Bailey, Nancy J. Yoder; and four brothers, Russell, Marlin, Glen, and John.
Delmer was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1960 to 1962.
As a truck driver he drove for John Stine in McVeytown and later retired in 2001 from Geo Bossert Trucking in Mifflintown.
He was a long time member of Camp Carlisle, where he enjoyed hunting with his family and friends. He was also a member of the Lewistown Moose Family Center and the National Rifle Association.
Delmer looked forward to every other Thursday in the spring and summer when he could spend time with his donut and coffee club friends at Bill Kauffman's. He was also an avid LA Dodger's fan.
A loving husband, he was very devoted to his wife Bonnie and took exceptional care of her over the past eight and a half years.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown with Rev. M. Leon Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 12, 2021 at the funeral home.
