Dale J. Byers

   Dale J. Byers, 94, of Kansas Road, McVeytown, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

   Born Nov. 25, 1929 in Tiffin, Ohio, he was a son of the late James Russel and Ethel May (Nagle) Byers.  His first wife, Dorothy L. Byers, preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 1976.  His second wife, Edna G. (Hartley) Byers, preceded him in death on June 10, 2021.

  Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Foxine Byers; and several siblings.

   Surviving are:  a daughter, Lorraine Drake and husband DeWayne of Mt. Union; six stepchildren, Betty Ann Albright and husband Ron of Lewistown, Daniel R. Grove of Port Royal, Larry L. Grove of Lewistown, Grace I. Lucci and husband Mark of Milroy, Ronald N. Grove of California, Ricky A. Grove of Lewistown; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

   He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War.

   Early in life he was employed in construction and at Containment Solutions in Mt. Union.  He also formerly owned B&D's Bar and Cafe in Mt. Union.

   Dale was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, McVeytown, where he served as custodian for many years.  He was also a member of the Moose Family Center in Lewistown, and enjoyed time with his little dog, Buddy.

   A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Haven Rest Memorial Park in Shirleysburg with Pastor Connie Maclay officiating.
