Charles J. Fitzgerald Sr., 85, of McClure, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by family, on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the home of his daughter Charlotte in Willsboro, New York.
Born May 27, 1939 in Abington Township, Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Robert and Margaret (Meister) Fitzgerald. His wife, Ellen E. (Kirk) Fitzgerald, whom he married Sept. 17, 1960, survives.
Also surviving are: five children, Debbie Murphy of McVeytown, Charlotte Gerding and husband Todd of Willsboro, New York, Timothy Fitzgerald and wife Hazel of McVeytown, Tracy Schreiner and husband Ray of Lewistown, Charles Fitzgerald Jr. and wife Heather of McClure; a brother, Jim Fitzgerald and wife Cathy of McCoysville; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a son-in-law, John Murphy; a sister, Peggy; and five brothers, Robert, Joseph, Edward, Walter, and Leo.
He was employed as a lineman for the Philadelphia Electric Co. for 35 years.
As an avid sports fan, Charles enjoyed watching wrestling, the Philadelphia Eagles, and Penn State. He also enjoyed helping his grandchildren with their wrestling and softball activities.
His hobbies included working with his Belgian draft horses and building birdhouses for friends and family.
Most of all he loved time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025 at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with Father Joseph Fleming officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Feb. 8, 2024 at the funeral home.
